Troubleshooting / Equipment Check

Sophos Firewall

The white Sophos box on the top shelf is the firewall which provides the WiFi networks and internet security.

Green lights should flash under the Activity sections under LAN, WAN and DMZ. Orange lights should remain solid on the Link section for all 3.

1/LAN = Connectivity to the UniFi network switch

2/WAN = Connectivity from a 4G or ADSL router

3/WAN = Connectivity from a 4G or ADSL router

4 = This can also be used as an additional network source but is rarely used

2 x 4G Routers

Towards the rear you will see 2 x D-Link 4G routers which send the mobile connection directly to the Sophos Firewall.  Both routers should display green flashing lights at all times.

Orange or Red indicate poor or no network connectivity.

Depending on site requirements, sometimes only 1 router will be switched on, please check with IT if you are unsure.

 UniFi Network Switch

This provides network connectivity to additional hardware such as the site copier, WiFi access points and any other internet accessed kit.

This can be either an 8 port switch or 16 port switch for an increased amount of access points etc.

If you are having difficulty connecting your laptop to the WiFi, you can use an Ethernet cable to connect directly to the switch for network connectivity.

Mini Dell PC

Note:The Mini PC is shortly to be removed from all boxes due to reliability issues. Your box may not have one.

This allows the IT team to remotely connect to the network without needing to connect to a user laptop.

It also monitors the onsite copier toner levels and automatically orders toner and parts required.

Should the IT Team need to connect, please ensure the circular power button at the top is white and turned on.
